1. Public art is art in any media that has been planned and executed with the intention of being staged in the physical public domain, usually outside and accessible to all.

Pompano Beach Pier Souvenir Project

Overview
The City of Pompano Beach is seeking an artist/artist team to create souvenirs varying in size using pieces of wood from the original Pompano Beach Pier.

Project Scope
Artist will create a minimum of 5,550 souvenirs varying in size and style. The Pier wood will be supplied by the City.

  • 50 unique 8” x 10” paintings painted on the wood
  • 500 limited edition wood works (can be any size and style i.e. painting, carved, etched, etc…)
  • 5,000 small knickknacks (i.e. keychains, tokens, jewelry, etc…)

The souvenirs must state wordage similar to “Pompano Beach Pier 1964 to 2017”. Artist must provide pricing for each artwork as well as a budget the artist requires, artist fee must be included in this budget.


Pompano Beach

Located just north of Fort Lauderdale, in the heart of Florida's Gold Coast, the City of Pompano Beach is home to some of the warmest and clearest waters, welcoming golden fine sandy beaches and calming breezes. It's the perfect place for a beach vacation, with lots of sun, fun and adventure. Water sports such as deep sea fishing, scuba diving and paddle boarding are enjoyed as well as and volleyball, fitness equipment, playgrounds, picnics and an interactive water fountain.


Submittal Requirements

All submissions should be submitted through email, mail, or delivered by hand. Submissions received after ¬July 31st at 5 p.m. will not be accepted. Submissions must include:

  • Digital Images of portfolio / previous artwork (Minimum of 3 and maximum of 8 digital images which relate in material and/or general approach to this project);
  • Artist/General Approach Statement – limited to one page describing the artist’s plan for this project;
  • Sample designs
  • Budget- this will include artist fee and material cost. This is how much the artist will be paid in total.

  • Sample designs
  • Budget

Eligibility

The project is open to all professional artists nationwide. Artists are NOT eligible if they are immediate family or business partners of members of the Public Art Committee or program staff.


Artist Selection

The Community Redevelopment Agency is in charge of the selection process.


MLK & Dixie Sculpture

Underwater Sculpture

Budget: $35,000
Deadline: July 2, 2018

The City of Pompano Beach is looking to commission an artist/artist team to design and fabricate a sculpture that will be displayed at the beach for a one year. After a year, it will be submerged into the ocean and attached to Lady Luck in shipwreck Park.
